Man of Iota Phi Theta Who Served on the Bernie Sanders Campaign
Tyrone Williams is a graduate from Kansas State University where he became a charter member of the Theta Eta chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc.
His interest in politics developed at K-State when he began serving in his role as the Multicultural Affairs Director. Tyrone served as a liaison for 47 student organizations and his constituents needed more resources than they were being offered to them at the time. From fighting issues such as increasing the Diversity Program Council Funding to assisting these organizations in facilitating their events, it edified the standards of the university and demonstrated what all the students were capable of in pushing their agenda for multicultural recruitment and retention.
Tyrone joined the Bernie Campaign on January 9th, 2016 after applying for the position mid-December. "I had been following the Senator for quite some time and decided that rather than just talk about the changes I'd like to see, I could be a part of the change," Tyrone states. “With someone as Revolutionary as Senator Sanders has been in awakening our generation, I felt that he was someone genuine and transparent enough for me to get behind and support."
Tyrone admits that he has become more knowledgeable around politics based off his experience on the Bernie Sanders campaign. "I learned that the political scene is even more high pace than one can anticipate. You have to adapt to your surroundings as well as your team as soon as you are slated for a position and no matter what the task at hand is, you get it done. No questions asked."
Belonging to a movement of this caliber has been mind-blowing for Tyrone. From the amazing staff he has served with to the phenomenal volunteers that worked with the campaign effortlessly day in and day out, he states that the biggest lesson he took away is that, “We as a united front, can achieve in any endeavors.”
Tyrone now serves as the Director of Field Operations for Jack Berry for Mayor 2016.
